Safe Kids North Central FloridaSafe Kids is part of the Safe Kids Worldwide
which was founded in 1987 with the goal of
preventing unintentional childhood injuries. Safe
Kids is led by Shands Children’s Hospital at UF
and is comprised of public, private, voluntary
organizations, as well as individuals.
Safe Kids is funded in large part by Children’s
Miracle Network at Shands Children’s Hospital.

Mission
Safe Kids North Central Florida leads a coalition of community partners to
prevent accidental death and injury to children ages 14 and under. We
empower families and communities to:

  • Educate adults and children
  • Create safe environments
  • Conduct research and
  • Advocate for effective laws

  • 131 community events
  • 132 CPS/Occupant Protection events
  • 96 car seat classes held
  • 993 individuals served through car seat activities (includes 0-14 plus teen drivers)
  • 206 special needs car seats provided
  • 487 car seats provided
  • 3,469 bike helmets distributed/fitted
  • 58,051 children reached through classroom education and community events
  • 20,429 brochures distributed through facilities or community events
  • 100,087 FDOT specialty items distributed (Value $84,218.00)
2008 Awards include:
  • Best Practices for the State of Florida (won awards for two educational programs)
  • Outstanding Programs for Florida
